What’s Leaving Netflix Instant: April 2017

Every month, as dozens of new titles are added to Netflix Instant’s vast streaming library (with even more possibilities for your endlessly indecisive scrolling), several movies and TV shows are taken away, spirited into the expiration ether. New Netflix Instant Releases: April 2017

April showers bring…new titles to stream on Netflix Instant. That doesn’t rhyme, but you get the idea. Next month’s additions include new seasons of Netflix Original series The Get Down and Chewing Gum, as well as the first season of Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Return, and the premiere of one of two Louis C.K. comedy specials hitting the service this year. Hollywood Studios Considering Early Home Releases for New Films

Almost exactly a year ago, tech entrepreneur Sean Parker (better known as the guy who correctly identified a billion dollars as cooler than a million dollars in The Social Network) fronted a proposed business venture called The Screening Room, a potentially game-changing set-top box through which Hollywood studios would offer their biggest new releases to stream at home the same day they premiered in brick-and-mortar theaters. (With an astronomical price tag, naturally.) Though it gained some traction and support from significant voices in the film community, it ultimately sputtered and spun out. Mark Hamill Shares Another Photo From the First ‘Star Wars’ Shoot that Lucasfilm Kept Hidden for Years

Mark Hamill, like many stars who enjoy sharing glimpses of the days before they finally made it big, enjoys posting the occasional photo or two from the sets of Star Wars. Just a few days ago, he shared what might very well be the first ever photo taken of Luke Skywalker in costume out in the middle of the Tunisian desert. Today, another early photo of himself as the young Jedi was unearthed, and Hamill pointed out that Lucasfilm was not keen on letting the public see it for years.

‘Game of Thrones’ Creator George R.R. Martin to Open His Very Own Movie Studio

About a decade ago, one of the hot new trends in the film industry was states writing tax credits into their statutes and regulations for the film industry. The idea was that rather than making California and Vancouver double for every city in North America, Hollywood would be able to shoot on location at roughly the same cost and local business would benefit from access to studio productions. Of course, there is an obvious flaw with this plan: while studios might gain access to locations through tax credits, the local infrastructure they need  —  stages, technicians, union members  —  is often nowhere to be found. As recently as August 2016, Variety had declared this a dead experiment.

Check Out the Interactive BB-8 Coming Soon to Disney World

You can claim that the true star of Star Wars: The Force Awakens was Rey or Finn or Kylo Ren. Or you could go with one of the old guard characters like General Leia or Han Solo. But you would be wrong. The true star of Force Awakens was BB-8. Period. End of discussion. He was the best.
