It may not seem that way now but there was a time when this area had some damn good concerts running through it almost every year.  I’ve been fortunate enough to meet with and bring on stage some very memorable bands.

In particular I remember that Sevendust was one of the nicest groups of artists I’ve ever met.  Lajon was especially courteous and overly grateful…. He kept saying “Thank you guys so much for having us out” and “We’re just really excited to be here”, which is something that bands are supposed to say everywhere they go but after a certain amount of success those types of niceties are rarely heard.  So the fact that these guys had seen and would go on to see a great deal of success yet were still humble enough to say thank you to some no-name rock station DJ was extremely impressive and quite memorable.

I would have to say of all the bands I’ve met I was hit on the most by the guys from Hinder…not just one but if I recall correctly all of them.  Actually, now that I’m thinking about it they may have been the only band to ever hit on me.

Wait, that’s not true, I got hit on at the Make America Rock Again concert at Dos Amigos in Odessa the year before last.

Anyway the point is there have been some really good shows come through this area and here is the list of my top 5 favorite shows.  Two of which I didn’t actually go to but they had to be on the list because we’re talking best concerts in the last 40 years, not just the ones I happen to get to go to.

Motley Crew 2000 at the Ector County Coliseum

Sevendust (I can’t remember what year they were here)

Pantera 1997 at the Ector County Coliseum

Metallica 1992 at the Ector County Coliseum

Selena 1994 at Christensen Stadium

To be honest I only posted this blog with this list because I knew that when the people who have lived here for the past 40 years saw it they would have a much better version of the list to tell me about, so let’s hear it, who’s your top 5 best concerts to come through Midland/Odessa in the last 40 years?
