‘Star Wars: Episode 8’ Will Go Deeper Into Kylo Ren’s ‘Humanity’
Over the years, the Star Wars movies have gradually matured. We saw a shift from the original trilogy in how Darth Vader was personified — first a faceless villain, then a tragic former father — and then the prequels took us back to see the bad guy’s fall from grace. With this new trilogy, we’re given a new masked villain with a red lightsaber at the head of an evil organization, but Kylo Ren seems like the least bad of all the Star Wars villains, or, at least the one for whom you most want a redemption arc. There’s a reason for that.
‘Deadpool’ Is the Most Pirated Movie of 2016
When is a superhero movie like Game of Thrones? When it’s the most pirated movie of the year, of course. On a new list of all the movies downloaded from popular torrenting site BitTorrent, the merc with a mouth tops the chart over Batman v. Superman, Captain America: Civil War, and The Force Awakens.
Debbie Reynolds, Star of Stage and Screen and Mother of Carrie Fisher, Dies at 84
Unbeatable entertainer Debbie Reynolds, star of Singin’ in the Rain and mother to Carrie Fisher, has died at the age of 84 after suffering a stroke earlier on Wednesday.
Scarlett Johansson Wields Two Weapons in a New ‘Ghost in the Shell’ Image
With 2016 almost over, thankfully, it’s time to turn our collective attention to everything we’re excited for in the new year. Our staff even drew up a list of all the movies we’re most anticipating, and among those is the Ghost in the Shell adaptation starring Scarlett Johansson. To say that the movie remains controversial would be an understatement, but we can’t deny that it looks stunning. There’s even a new image from the movie to prove it.
‘Suicide Squad,’ ‘Deadpool,’ ‘Hail, Caesar!’ Included in Oscar Makeup Finalists
One of the more niche Oscar categories is Best Makeup and Hairstyling, which is one of those that gets awarded early on in the ceremony before any of the really big ones like Best Actress or Best Picture are announced at the very end. But sometimes it’s the technical categories that are the really interesting ones, and this year in particular saw a few very creative makeup design moves, especially when it came to superhero movies.
Gareth Edwards Confirms ‘Rogue One’ Completely Scrapped the Script’s Original Ending
If you’ve seen Rogue One by now, you’ve probably noticed a lot of the moments we all saw in the trailers didn’t actually make the final cut of the movie. We even published a whole run-down of all the lines and shots that are nowhere to be found in the finished product. Apparently the movie went through a lot more edits than just reshoots though, because according to director Gareth Edwards, the original script had a vastly different ending from what the movie ended up with. This article focuses on the end of the movie, so if you haven’t seen it yet, SPOILERS abound.)
Michael Fassbender Takes Down Some Carriages in New ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Clip
Michael Fassbender has a lot to learn about assassin-ing for Assassin’s Creed, and a recent clip introducing the new Animus didn’t make his prospects look very promising. But today’s new clip shows a much more capable Callum Lynch/Aguilar, who is a lot more confident in his physics-defying parkour skills.
Nicolas Cage Starring in Action Sci-Fi Movie ‘The Humanity Bureau’
No, it’s not a sequel to The Adjustment Bureau, and, no, Nic Cage probably won’t wear one of those nifty dimension-hopping hats. The Humanity Bureau sounds like more of a Gattaca-meets-Elysium kind of thing, where people are unfairly assigned to live in poverty based on whether or not they’re productive to society. And Nicolas Cage has been cast to save them all, of course.
Kylo Ren’s Vader Obsession Might Make Its Way Onto His New ‘Episode VIII’ Costume
Much like the Marvel movies add subtle differences to each iteration of the superheroes’ costumes, the cast of Star Wars also gets periodic updates from movie to movie. We already learned some possible details about Luke Skywalker’s new getup for Episode VIII, so we shouldn’t be surprised that Kylo Ren also may be getting some new duds. Some spoilers for The Force Awakens are below, so if you haven’t seen it yet, be aware.
Leap Into the World of ‘Assassin’s Creed’ With a New Featurette
Horses! Tall buildings! Sword fights! Wrist knife fights! Taller buildings! Time travel (kinda)! The upcoming Assassin’s Creed movie has it all, and 20th Century Fox invites us into the world of the assassins in a new featurette. From what we’ve heard about production, the behind-the-scenes bonus features on this DVD/Blu-ray are going to be nuts: the stuntwork alone is worth a movie all on its own.
