Spring is in the air, and so are a few highly-anticipated new movie releases as we begin our climb to the eventful blockbuster days of summer. Surprise — Paramount has delayed the release date of their upcoming sequel to The Ring yet again, marking the third time that the studio has assigned a new release date to Rings, following a series of shifts for their long-developing Friday the 13th reboot / sequel / who-knows-what-it-is-anymore. Rings will now hit theaters this October…supposedly, maybe, possibly, we’ll see.
Not to be confused with Disney’s ever-growing slate of live-action remakes which includes a Pinocchio project, Warner Bros.’ has had a Pinocchio movie of their own in development for years, with Robert Downey Jr. attached to play the role of puppet creator Gepetto. After repeatedly failing to secure a director, WB’s Pinocchio may have finally found its maker in Ron Howard, who is reportedly coming aboard to direct the long-gestating live-action take on the classic fairy tale.
It's been 20 years since Barbra Streisand directed a feature film, though there's been no shortage of her talents on stage and screen since. Streisand is ready to get back in the director's chair with an upcoming biopic about Catherine the Great, and it looks like Keira Knightley may be her leading lady in the film that follows the life of the famous Russian ruler.
Plans for a live-action Astro Boy movie were first announced last year, when original production company Tezuka Productions and Animal Logic (the folks behind The LEGO Movie) joined forces to develop a film based on the classic character. Since then, we haven’t heard anything about the project, but it looks as though the studios are finally preparing to blast off as New Line has come on board to distribute the film, with the writers of San Andreas penning the screenplay.
Zack Snyder recently revealed that he sought and received Christopher Nolan’s blessing for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (though it really sounded like Nolan just didn’t care), but he wasn’t the only one looking for approval for the upcoming superhero epic. Ben Affleck says that he also went to his Batman predecessors — not for their blessing, but for some helpful Bat-tips.
Here is the first trailer for Kindergarten Cop 2, which is a real movie and absolutely, 100 percent not an elaborate prank on you, Dolph Lundgren, Arnold Schwarzenegger or some suit sitting in a Hollywood office. This is an actual movie that has been made, and the trailer allows you the opportunity to gaze into the abyss to see if it also gazes into you…or if it is a tumor after all.

A few months ago, Adam McKay didn’t seem so sure about his involvement with Ant-Man and the Wasp, though he did say he wanted to return for Marvel’s upcoming sequel. McKay came on board the first Ant-Man a bit late in the game, helping Paul Rudd with some rewrites when director Peyton Reed replaced Edgar Wright, but it looks like The Big Short director will be on board from the get-go this time around.
It took a few tries, but Ryan Reynolds finally delivered a good superhero blockbuster with Deadpool, and to celebrate, the actor is eyeing a reunion with the writers behind his box office record-breaking solo outing. Reynolds is in talks to star in the upcoming sci-fi film Life, which boasts the bonus feature of working opposite Mission: Impossible – Rogue Nation breakout Rebecca Ferguson.
