There are plenty of great titles added to Netflix Instant each month, but there are also several movies and television shows that leave the service, too. Now's the time to stop procrastinating! While Netflix recently announced that they're renewing their streaming deal with the BBC, there are still a few British titles that will be hitting the road. Read on for our guide to the titles expiring on Netflix Instant in February—it may be your last chance to see some of them for a while.
A biopic based on the Mötley Crue book ‘The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band’ has been in the works for several years, but it’s been a while since we’ve heard anything about the rowdy project. That changed today, as Focus Features has acquired the rights to distribute the film, with ‘Jackass’ director Jeff Tremaine still attached to helm the project—as if there could be a more appropriate choice for director.
That 'Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2' trailer almost stole some thunder tonight because I pretty much forgot that we were getting a brand, uh, spanking new, Beyoncé-accompanied trailer for '50 Shades of Grey.' Shady move, Blart. The second full trailer for the upcoming adaptation of the popular 'Twilight' fan-fiction erotica novel is here, so let's break it down, shall we?
We won’t know exactly how graphic ‘50 Shades of Grey’ is going to be until we see the film with our own cursed eyeballs, but we now officially know that the film has been given an R-rating by the pearl-clutching members of the MPAA. What does that R-rating stand for? Graphic nudity, “strong sexual content,” and “unusual behavior.” Wait, what the hell is unusual behavior?!
Casting for Legendary’s ‘Kong: Skull Island’ (previously titled ‘Skull Island’) has been a little slow-going. For several months, the only actor confirmed for the upcoming prequel was Tom Hiddleston, followed recently by J.K. Simmons. As if the cast wasn’t already shaping up to be particularly awesome, Legendary is now in talks with Michael Keaton to make it even cooler.
It wasn’t that long ago that we learned Channing Tatum would be playing the role of Cajun mutant Gambit in an upcoming ‘X-Men’ spinoff film. To make the news a bit better, we also learned that ‘RoboCop’ remake writer Josh Zeteumer was working on the script, which is based on a treatment by ‘X-Men’ comics writer Chris Claremont, who also co-created the original character. And today, in even better news, Tatum has announced the release date for ‘Gambit,’ which will be coming to a theater near you in 2016.
A couple of weeks ago, we saw a brief teaser for Call of Duty Online featuring ‘Captain America’ star Chris Evans. Today brings the full live-action trailer for the new game, in which Evans goes from Marvel superhero to video game war hero, fighting alongside his fellow players in a promo for the new Chinese game. Yes, that’s right—Call of Duty Online was made exclusively for China. Sorry, guys.
Even before Sony was hacked and we got a look at their e-mails regarding Spider-Man, we knew that the company was scrambling to figure out what to do with the web-slinging hero. After talks with Marvel for a potential crossover with the character fizzled, it seemed as though Sony was focusing their energies on Spidey spin-offs and putting plans for ‘Amazing Spider-Man 3' on hold, perhaps indefinitely. But according to a new casting call, it looks like Sony might be moving ahead with the third installment in the underwhelming franchise after all.
It’s the start of a new year and the start of a new month of Netflix Instant releases. For years now, Paul Reubens has teased that an all-new ‘Pee-wee’ movie is in the works, but it was only over the course of the last year that the project finally became more of a reality. With Judd Apatow’s involvement and an official script locked in, Reubens revealed that production on the film is set to begin in 2015. But don’t count on seeing Pee-wee back on the big screen—he’s heading to Netflix.
