Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice hits theaters this week (in four days, but who’s counting?), and although we’ve seen plenty of footage in all the trailers and TV spots, Warner Bros. has released another preview of Zack Snyder’s superhero epic — just in case you’re feeling a bit impatient. Four minutes of B-roll footage has arrived online, offering a sneak peek at some previously unseen sequences, along with another look at the Batmobile in action and one particularly silly Laurence Fishburne.
There’s long been speculation about Jena Malone’s role in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, but it looks like we can stop guessing…for now. Warner Bros. has confirmed that Malone’s mystery character will not be featured in the theatrical release of Zack Snyder’s superhero epic, but she will appear on the R-rated Ultimate Edition, which hits DVD and Blu-ray later this year.
Is this the first cast photo from the upcoming Power Rangers movie, or is this promoting the new juniors line in the latest Macy’s catalogue? The only proof we have of the former (aside from its debut in Entertainment Weekly) is the absence of a caption telling us how to get Trini’s cool grunge look.
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will really set the stage for Warner Bros.’ slate of DC superhero movies, which includes solo outings for Wonder Woman, Aquaman, The Flash and Cyborg, along with two Justice League movies. And at the far end of that schedule is a new Green Lantern film, tentatively arriving in 2020. Of all of WB’s new DC movie heroes, Green Lantern is the only one we won’t meet anytime soon, but if you’ve been wondering when to expect his arrival, we may have an answer.
There was a considerable period of time when a new Sacha Baron Cohen movie was a highly-anticipated event, and yet we haven’t seen much marketing for his upcoming spy comedy The Brothers Grimsby. Granted, Cohen hasn’t been very active since The Dictator, and you wouldn’t be wrong for assuming that his waning popularity might have something to do with Sony’s lackluster marketing push — the underwhelming trailers don’t help, either. But a new report suggests that there might be another reason that general audiences aren’t very aware of The Brothers Grimsby, and that reason might be Donald Trump.
Deadpool demolished box office records, quickly becoming the biggest X-Men franchise film of all time and the highest-grossing R-rated film. It certainly wasn’t the first successful R-rated action comedy, but in terms of superhero films, Deadpool made a pretty major splash — which has fans wondering if we’ll see more comic book adaptations take the restricted rating route. While Warner Bros. appears to be open to the possibilities, there’s one studio that definitely won’t be taking a similar tack anytime soon…or ever.
Tina Fey has proven herself capable of elevating some fairly mediocre material (remember Admission? Of course you don’t), and while Whiskey Tango Foxtrot hardly presents a formidable challenge, it does put that theory to the test. The latest film from the directors of Crazy Stupid Love and Focus is just as glossy as its predecessors, but without the comedic vibrance of Fey, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot could have easily resulted in a spiritual successor to Eat, Pray, Love.
Although J.J. Abrams has repeatedly asserted that 10 Cloverfield Lane is not a direct sequel to Cloverfield, the two films do share some DNA, including the revival of Bad Robot's interactive viral marketing. This new IMAX poster not only indulges the studio's fondness for hidden clues and little easter eggs, but also features a very clever design.
Team Cap or Team Iron Man is the biggest question of the year (you know, aside from the presidential election, which is sort of a big deal). Forget Batman and Superman and the X-Men and Apocalypse — Captain America: Civil War is going to really shake things up. In keeping with the film's government (and anti-government) theme, Marvel has released two new poster images inviting you to — no surprise here — choose a side.
According to Steven Soderbergh, it may be a couple of years before we return to The Knick (or something like it), but in the meantime the semi-retired filmmaker is working on an ambitious HBO film with Sharon Stone, a potential return to the big screen, and producing three television series. We can add another project to his growing pile of work, as Soderbergh is set to reunite with Oscar-nominated Out of Sight scribe Scott Frank for a new Netflix series.
